Your 7 character product number shows that your lenovo 3000 machine came with DOS license so when you say you're running Windows XPP, do you mean you've SP2 installed from Microsoft as well?
SP2 is very crucial as it addresses many problems including sleep/standby and hibernation issues. To give you an idea, there is an issue where notebooks with 1GB memory (which your machine has) running Windows XP without SP2 will not enter standby state, so make sure to install SP2 in case you haven't.
In addition, double check you've the following driver installed from lenovo:
Power management driver for Windows XP - 3000 N200. (follow the installation instructions precisely)
Mind looking at the troubleshooting tips from lenovo:

And Microsoft:

"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
