Damaged/pushed in headphone socket

I have a 3000 I dropped on its side. I had a set of headphones in there and it looks it's sheared the socket off the motherboard.
The machine otherwise operates fine but there's no sound.
Obviously I do not want to replace the motherboard as it's probably going to be more expensive than the machine.
What do you think I should do?

Some Lenovo 3000 N100/N200 had the audio jacks on a separate "extension card", which connected to the motherboard through a socket. Happened to my friend, the service center said it's gonna be $20 for the extension card and $50 for the labor (converted local prices to something understandable), so we asked just for the part and I replaced it - though after doing so I understood why they wanted so much, I had to almost completely disassemble the base, the LCD with all cables had to go off (through holes which seemed too small for the connectors to pass), before I could access the place where the card was.
In case it's directly on motherboard, someone with good soldering skills could replace it - at least my friend who can do that said so - but still that's definitely riskier.
So perhaps ask the service center or tell us something more about your machine.
Late thought: no sound as in not even from internal speakers?

of course there is no sound from the internal speakers - it goes through the hp jack when hp's are not connected
same as ordinary boomboxes or amplifiers

this is a 14" 3000 n200
it's a very plain laptop... the only reason i like it is it runs VERY COOL (due to the Pentium DC) and it has 5-6 hrs battery life (I got a free upgrade to a 9 cell)
I will call them and see how much it costs.

Machine Type 0769 = separate USB/audio card
Machine Type 0687 = motherboard
Well... you can always buy USB or ExpressCard soundcard.

Hi,
My kids have been swinging out of the headphone cable and have wrecked it so it needs replacing...I had a look at it on saturday, but i can't seem to get at the socket being talked about... I have a Machine Type 0769.
Is the access from above; would anybody know a link where removing the cover is explained; I don't want to force anything....of course an explanation of the whole process would be even more welcome.
Where, for example can I find the component number which I need to order the part from IBM; I told them what was wrong in an email, but they wouldn't send anything without the part number.
