Windows 7 RC1 on N200 is slower...?!

#1 Post by boweb » Tue May 26, 2009 5:01 am

Yes, I can confirm this too.
Windows 7100 RC 1 is xx% slower on the video end when installed on the lenovo 3000 N200 T7500 Intel laptop.

I am fairly disappointed about this release, expecting 10% more performance, or "at least" the same as the W7 7000 release.

Interesting to find:
Overclocking the GPU did not make any noticeable difference..!?
Tested this with nTune and ATItools. Somehow performance did not ad more
then 4 to 5%..where around 30 percent is the normal situation in XP, Vista and W7 7000 .
Also lost 2 points on the performance scale.. Interesting :/
Could be an driver thing, but why doesn't it work right now when before( 7000) it did perform nicely.

Working windows is more stable then on Vista( Or should we say W7 delta), some what the same as the 7000 release.
Some buggy stuff remains and gotten worse. Firefox and plugs seem slower in working and starting up.
But the disappearing taskbar still remains an problem..?? Where we could revive it before via the taskbar options, it is no more
possible now. Logging off and on craches the Aero interface... This is an know problem in the MS database too.
Fingerprint seems to appear a little bit faster, but it takes the same till the system comes to an complete rest.
So overall start up performance isn't really faster, just looks that way.

Media Player 12...well it looks stripped down still. They removed the editor from the application, wich was realy the best thing.
The rest is to bug us, being just not what we need.
Removed the calender application, added an revamped calculator..but you can not enlarge it?? Put back some of the games
( why remove them in the first place) and removed the obvious bad ones. Mail is gone, moviemaker ect.. at least in this RC.
Some are available as add-on via Live. Still have to do thorough testing..

I think they are messing with us again, its fair to say that a working version of this OS is in there hands, but
apparently they are skimming it off again. And after the crippled Vista bogus release, they seem to think to know what
minimum they can release on us October. There just setting us up to buy more added software, again. Nothing new I know.
Really sad, because I like Windows still, its just not enough, again. Even the interface can be done in Vista, but this release
is just that little bit more then Vista is/was. But that bugger was severely crippled.

All in all, Windows 7 is an nice progression after XP and Vista, but I really think there isn't much to look forward to,
and pay more the 100$( or €) for. After the crippled Vista, they should do something for us here.
But I haven't found anything I couldn't do in Vista, but most of us don't call this an OS anyway.
From my stand point, XP, Vista and Windows 7 are very close related, considering they market these as new operating systems.
Add to that the fact that thousands of people worked on this one "for a lot of years", the difference is minimal. Atleast from
an user stand point. Most industries will be happy with the added annoyance to the market.

Lets see what the upgrade will cost us,
and what the official release will be like. So fare I am not impressed and after the RC 1 somewhat disappointed.
