Help on C100 Processor Upgrade and Overclocking

#1 Post by yanni25 » Thu Nov 26, 2009 12:22 am

Hi there,

I had the 1.5ghz celeron and just upgraded to the 760 2.0 Pentium M.
I was told by a Lenovo Tech that I could not go to the 770 2.13 Ghz pentium M as only up to the 2.0 is supported by my laptop.

Can anyone confirm this? I assumed that all C100s had the same motherboard and don't see why I couldnt do the 2.13 as well.

Also, since I have installed the chip my fan has been coming on quite a bit. I even took it back apart and redid the thermal paste and still. Any ideas on why this is happening? Does this chip just run hotter? It's quite annoying when Im not even using the computer and the fan cycles on every 2 minutes. Do I need to adjust settings in the bios?

I have maxed it out with 2gb ram instead of 512, bought a 7200 rpm harddrive instead of 5400, did the chip from 1.5 celeron to 2.0 pentium, upgraded long life battery, and added an awesome logitech web camera as well as a tarabyte external hard drive for backup. What else can I do to it to max it out? I also already have the stock dvd rw drive so I believe this is like the most decked out version now for a c100.

Lastly I'd like to ask about overclocking. I want to get this thing as fast as possible. How can I go about doing that? I read about a software that does it or the pin mod.
As cheap as these processors are I dont mind messing with it if it will just mess up the processor and nothing else.

thanks for any advise

I used this guide when I did my Z60T which has the same chipset as your C100.

Here is a pic of the socket with the jumper in it's place:

Artic silver is essential for this.

Thanks guys any help on the fan coming on so often with the processor upgrade?

My cpu usage keeps going to 100% spiking, then the fan comes on and goes off in 10 seconds and everything calms down. Im barely using the computer when this happens, it never did it with the 1.5 celeron!
