Questions about the Lenovo V15 G2-ALC's firmware updates

#1 Post by fluoriteByte » Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:06 am

Hello! this is my first post, i made my account here cus this site seemed to have some lenovo experts

I am currently using my Lenovo V15 laptop but i have been having some issues, my SSD (samsung MZALQ512HBLU-00BL2) sometimes keeps disconnection on random intervals, this is slightly rare but it does disrupt my workflow.

Its mostly BTRFS read/write errors, i have no media errors on this disk but i have reached 46 unsafe shutdowns (from smartctl -c /dev/nvme0)

I also wanted to ask about the latest BIOS firmware, the latest version is glcn63ww, i have some slight concerns over upgrading to this version,
im currently running the glcn55ww firmware (used a Hiren Boot Win11 PE thing) but it seems that in the change logs under version glcn57ww it says, "Add 8GB Slot memory request"
ik this laptop doesnt officially support more than 8 gigs in the dimm slot but i got 16 gigs running fine and the system passed the lenovo efi testing suite test for RAM,
im concerned that this update might block me from using more than 8 gigs of RAM, should i be worried?
