Z580 experiences?

#1 Post by epbrown » Sat Aug 18, 2012 6:28 pm

Has anyone purchased a Ideapad Z580? For the past couple of years I've used an Asus K-series as my home DTR(desktop replacement) but it died this week so I'm looking for a new system. There's a Z580 at my local Office Depot, but there doesn't seem to be much information about them on the net. Does the lack of activity on this forum mean everyone's happy with their Ideapads? :) I'm currently getting by using my 2000 TransNote (100Mhz Pentium running Windows 2K), so the quicker a reply the better!

Just as an FYI - I did wind up buying this model. So far, so good!

Mine has been chugging along nicely all this time. I didn't think so at the time, but Bluetooth would be nice to have, but that's he only shortcoming.

You can get a USB Bluetooth adapter on eBay for $1 shipped. I bought one several years ago and it works just fine.

Whoa, been a while! As an update, the Z580 has been active all this time. The hard drive died, apparently the 750GB models are prone to that; replaced it some time ago. Last week I spilled coffee on it (my first spill in over 20 years using laptops, starting with my Thinkpad 355 mono). I cleaned the keyboard but couldn't get it to work reliably. I bought a new keyboard off Amazon and it doesn't work at all. Looking at getting a Thinkpad 10 in hopes of replacing my laptop and equally ancient iPad in one fell swoop. I favor my Kindle more anyway as it fits in my motorcycle jacket for rides. ;)
