The information that you have given is a little unclear, may I specifically ask what IdeaPad G50 is this? There are several models that are similarly named: IdeaPad G50-30, G50-45, G50-70, and the G50-80.

If my assumption and research were right, the Core i3 in the IdeaPad G50 you are looking at has either a 1.7GHz Core i3-4005U, or a 1.9GHz Core i3-4030U, or a 2GHz Core i3-5005U. Processor-wise, these Core i3 processors are non-upgradable and are rather slow for the price given. The RAM and the HDD on the other hand, are fine. However, the price is still too much for the speed the IdeaPad G50 provides.

This is is not a fair price in my opinion, since you can actually get a good offer with $260 in hand. A T530 with a 2.6GHz Core i5-3320M + HD Graphics 4000, 8GB of DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 RAM, and a 320GB HDD is available for just $148.29 (excluding shipping costs) with the charger included. Then, you could use the extra money left to buy a HDD with more storage space or maybe a SSD.

Or a W520 with a 2.5GHz Core i7-2860QM, NVIDIA Quadro 1000M with 2GB of GDDR3 SDRAM, 4GB of DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 RAM, and a 500GB HDD. That is $229.99 (excluding shipping costs) with the charger included.

Maybe the owner's MacBook, that is if the price is alright. Anyways, if I were you... I would not want to spend $260 on a IdeaPad G50. The upgradability and speed just doesn't make it worth the price.

The brand is called 'Lenovo'.

I just picked up a nice Lenovo T440p (20AN006CUS) with 4GB RAM, i5-5300U, Intel HD4600 gfx, IPS FHD (1920x1080), DVDRW, 6-C battery, backlit keyboard, wifi 7260-AC+BT, but no HD/SSD and charger, for less than $100.
Eminently upgradable (if so inclined) to 2x8=16GB RAM, i7-quad CPU, 2.5" HD/SSD, second HD/SSD in Ultrabay with caddy, third NVMe SSD (in WWAN-slot), and a decent touchpad+buttons from T450 (a must).
No soldered this-or-that crap as lately in (too) many Ideapads or Thinkpads or smacbooks.
Even after all that I would still be under $260.
And any 20V-65/90W charger with a round-to-rectangular adapter (which I have both aplenty) will power it.

In other words: DON'T DO IT.

IMO, that's none of your concern. She could've gotten it for free, or paid $10K for it. None of that determines the actual value of a second-hand item.

If I felt really generous - and had use for the system in question - I *might* offer her $100, take it or leave it. But that's me.

You can see the (lowly) specs here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-g50 ... Id=6804123
Worst part: Display Screen Resolution: 1366 x 768 (HD) and almost certainly it's glossy!

Apparently the 80L000ALUS is the G50-80.
One review here: https://laptop.ninja/laptops/lenovo-g50 ... 15-6-inch/

Think twice or thrice...

I used to have a T61 worked well for years, just used it for e mails, you tube, Facebook etc...it expired just kept the screws, hard drive, lol. ..it was old but now the laptops are more advanced .. the T61 was quality made. I now use my galaxy Android for internet but I get square eyes after half hour...

T61 is a much better machine. That G50 is made out of marshmellows and sand, held together with bondo and elmers glue.

Agreed about the cons' part, and I don't think ThinkPads are considered a Rolls-Royce laptop. That title should be for Apple's iBooks and MacBooks, considering that they generally lack performance and tend to look good with some random person not doing actual work on it.

If that T61 of yours is a 14.1" 4:3 or a 14.1" 16:10 widescreen, I could could suggest a T420/T430. If it is a 15.4" 16:10 widescreen, a T520/T530 would do just fine.

A non-Rolls-Royce laptop recommendation would be a 15.6" 16:9 widescreen Clevo P750ZM/P751ZM, those are very fast laptops when compared with a equal-in-generation ThinkPad. Or maybe a smaller and a slower alternative, the 14.1" 16:9 widescreen Clevo P640RE. All of them are gaming laptops, but they do not have any of those dumb flashy LEDs or gamer 'aesthetics' nonsense.

Or maybe a 15.6" 16:9 widescreen Fujitsu Celsius H710? A 17.3" 16:9 widescreen Clevo P870TM1-G? I honestly think you should reply to RealBlackStuff's requirements list, since my assumptions would not help much without knowing what you need and what you don't.
