Help select Lenovo for 12 year old girl

#1 Post by PRAGUEGUY » Thu Dec 05, 2019 8:37 am

Dear Thinkpadders,
I would like your advice.
The girl wants a pink one...we solved that with a case.
Also, any advice about tuning, pasting , stickers, appreciated.
So, any advice? she does not need a Thinkpad. I would prefer a larger , at least 14 inch screen to avoid eye strain on small screen.
Please advice...I prefer an SSD version, but I have SSD disks to spare. So I could buy a normal one, and swap her HDD.
THANKS. Priorities - school, playing, chatting, social networks. thanks all, Merry Christmas

My 12yo sister loves the X230....and if she's anything like her....you will want a Thinkpad on a durability basis over anything else.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

You can get skins for most any laptop, regardless of brand.
Try e.g. eBay with: lenovo 14" cover skin pink.

As for a model, your budget would play a major role here, reckon with €300-400.
My suggestion would be a T450s or T460s, with 8GB RAM and FHD.

THANKS guys lovely fast advice...

I also have a super deal. Brand new in special discount plus can get without VAT (like US sales tax)

782 USD final price

BRAND new warranty etc
what would you recommend to the girl's mum...
I recommend the new one
unique combo of deals, discount, sale, tax free purchase
The kid¨s mother said 'no way its more than my Apple...", but, I say to her, this is an investment...
divide the price by 12. You pay more for your mobile bill...

Can't wait for that impeachment to really happen! Long overdue!

As for that T480 laptop, it has an i3-8130U CPU which is only a dual-core.
Rather 'old-style' for such a relatively new computer.
In this day and age you'd want a quad-core, in that T480 it would be an i5-8250U.

thanks.

Please consider that this kid is 12 y.o.

there are no perceivable differences in user experience or user benefit in her case, that would depend on choice of processor in Thinkpad series

anyway mother decided to go cheaper :)

but thanks for the thinking time provided.
I would not buy and

My sister tried out both a T450 (ULV dual-core, ~2.2Ghz[doesn't turbo much]) and her X230 (FV dual-core, 2.8Ghz w/ 3.5 turbo) and she said it was really obvious the X230 was faster.
