X201 battery failed (47++) - Need recommendations for a replacement

#1 Post by RVC » Fri Dec 24, 2021 1:37 pm

Hello,

I am hoping someone here can refer me to a known good Li-Ion battery for the X201 laptop. Mine appears to be the 9-cell rather than the 6-cell but I think the most important thing is for me to attempt to locate an OEM battery because quality and longevity are the issues I need to prioritize.

The markings on my battery are:

FRU P/N 42T4696
ASM P/N 42T4697

It may also be useful for you to know I have the X200 Ultrabase and use it daily. The problem is the X201 is older technology so the laptop does not power up if the battery is dead even if the AC adapter is used.

Please respond if you know of a quality battery I can purchase.

I'm reasonably certain that I still have several OEM batteries *somewhere* in my stash. Some had very low cycles when put away.

The problem being, I can't test them since my X200s is about 5,000 miles away at the moment.

I could pick one or two - if I end up finding them - and ship them to you UPS ground...maybe sometime next week.

If they work you mail me a check with the amount covering the shipping cost.

If they don't, just dispose of them.

How does that sound ?

I have two X201.
You can of course power on a Thinkpad by AC adapter only with a dead battery.
It is enough to disconnect the battery.

I'm not sure if you have found a solution, but...

I have had my laptop batteries refilled. I have done this 4-5 times and each time it worked nicely. I have used batteryrefill.com.

Leo, et al,

I have made numerous attempts to contact Battery Refill without success. Their phones take messages, their website has been up for a while, and I have emailed. Nothing works. Their real-time battery quotation feature is also inoperative. I have not received a phone call and the email I sent recently was returned to me indicating no success in reaching the email address of Battery Refill.

I strongly suggest avoiding Battery Refill unless you can determine you will be successful with them before placing an order.

Hi. Did you ever find a good source for your battery?

I bought a few genuine Lenovo batteries on ebay for a reasonable price. They are definitely worth the extra cost over no-name replacement batteries.

Does anyone have meaningful progress to report regarding replacement batteries for these X-series laptops? I should add that the company I was referred to here...Battery Refill no longer has a functioning website. I interpret this as an indication they are no longer in business. Everything I see on Amazon or ebay is from overseas and their quality is unknown. I need to be able to use my X230 away from AC power.
