Fitting x220 palmrest w/Trackpad to x201

#1 Post by backseat » Thu Nov 17, 2011 2:29 am

I am looking at purchasing a x201 without a trackpad for a good price. However I currently use trackpad alot on my thinkpad and have tried using the nib only but isn't comfortable.

Is it possible to fit the palmrest with trackpad from an x220 to an x201? If it is definately not possible then I will go with a standard x201 trackpad replacement but the x220 trackpads I think might be better with the integrated buttons.

It's too wide. I don't think the integrated buttons are that great. Good Luck.

it's definitely not possible.   skip the trackpad and learn to use the trackpoint.

i wish my X220 didn't have a trackpad at all.   i locked mine in place with o-rings so it can't click.   it's annoying otherwise.

welcome to the forum, btw! :)

Thanks for the replies, I have used the trackpoint, however it brings back rsi pains so I will go with the x201 trackpad.

I used to be like you and did not like the stick, but when I got my X200, I had to choice. Once I committed to using it, it took a few months, but now I would not go back.

I've been using ThinkPads since 1995. I remember the December, 2003 day when my R50p arrived with an Ultranav Pad. After 8 years practice with the Trackpoint, I loved the Ultranav Pad on first try and I've never gone back to the Trackpoint. It just feels awkward to me.

In my office, we use ThinkPads for electronic health records. Among our six nurses, two doctors, and a pa, about half love the Ultranav pad and about half love the Trackpoint.

I can't explain it, but I know it makes a big difference to some to have the nav pad and no difference to others. I waited to buy an X2xx until the X201 came with the Ultranav Pad.
First Thinkpad 755CX in 1995. First IBM: PC 1982 8088 w 64K RAM, dual floppy. Currently in use:
X230T with Win8Pro x64, i7, 500gb ssd; W700 WUXGA RAID 1 Blu-Ray W7Pro x64, occasionally a T61p with Win7Pro x64

Dont you wear the surface out quickly? Once had a diff brand NB and after one week seemed I had used fine sandpaper on it and made it shiny as mirror due to wear. B-tooth mouse Logitech flava not suitable?
