What's the max RAM that someone has tested in the X220t?

It's been suggested that it would take 8GB ram per slot, but it was never confirmed.

16 gigs is the max.

Also and advantage to getting 1333Mhz DIMMs instead of 1067Mhz DIMMs with an i5 540M? Seems only the i7 can utilize the higher speed? Upgrade path if want to use the ram in another machine down the line or will DDR4 make that meaningless? Voltage?

That is the Lenovo tested max when the 8 gigs ram modules are not available. But people have been using 16 gigs of ram in their X220 in forum.notebookreview.com

But the 8 gigs ram module are not cheap.

Check ThinkVantage Toolbox > Diagnostics > System > Memory > Device Information.

It specifically says the maximum supported memory is 16 GB.

intel updated many of the dual-core sandy bridge CPUs to reflect 16GB as the current maximum.   anything released after Q4'11 already shows 16GB on ark.intel.com.   anything offered in the X220/X220T supports 16GB.

What are your thoughts on 16GB for the 540M? Oversight on the spec sheet?

intel won't go back and test older CPUs with larger modules.   it's in their best interest to focus on new products.
