Installed SSD in X201, unable to boot external Win7 USB DVD

#1 Post by bluefrisbee » Wed Dec 21, 2011 11:23 pm

So I just put a new Intel 120GB SSD into my X201. I attached a Memorex external DVD R/W drive with a Windows 7 DVD in it. But despite enabling USB CD booting in the BIOS and ensuring the USB CD is first in the boot order, it doesn't see the drive and won't boot the Windows 7 disk. I tried an XP disk and had the same result.

Any suggestions? Should I try building a Windows 7 USB thumb drive to boot off of? Don't want to lose an hour on that to only have it not see it.

I just did a BIOS upgrade prior to the drive install as well, FYI.

Perhaps you might wish to test the drive on another PC?

Drive was working fine on other PC. I created a Windows 7 USB boot stick and it worked great. Now I have RAM problems (see my other thread :( )
