BSOD after installing new single 8GB RAM module

So I purchased that 8GB ram module from Frys that was recommended and installed it into my X201. I get a BSOD saying BAD_POOL_HEADER when I boot.

I can't believe this memory module is "bad", and I know others have it working. What could I be missing?

Sad to go back to my paltry 2GB and have to ditch this module and start again.

I would try running a memory test on it. Run a Linux live USB key and try running the memory test and let it go through a few cycles.

That would be the best bet, if it's bad, take it back and get an exchange. It happens time to time, not all are made equal unfortunately :(

I ran the Windows 7 memory test, it did two full passes without any errors. Meanwhile the BIOS can see the module. It sees it fine if I keep both the 2GB and 8GB, or just the 8GB. The BSOD only occurs with just the 8GB, when I leave both in, for 10GB, Windows starts, but it hangs at the black screen that says starting Windows.

I will try booting a 64bit Linux, but I feel like this is Windows that is giving the problem, not the RAM. I have the 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have it patched and upgraded through both Lenovo's and Microsoft's site, as well as the latest BIOS. I am at a loss and quite disappointed.

if it's a corsair module, try a different brand.   there has been more than one post lately with thinkpad owners having trouble with 8GB corsair modules for whatever reason.   my guess is that these modules are high-density (only 4 chips on each side) and not fully compatible with thinkpads.

Are you sure it supports 8GB RAM modules?

I'm on the x220 so not the same but I thought they maxed out at 4GB modules with current BIOS, i.e. 2x4GB = 8GB max.
