x220 - noisy keyboard?

I just got an x220 and like it a lot. However, one issue is that the keyboard is noisy, especially the space bar - clacky is probably a good description.

Is this typical?

I removed it and put it back to install something, so maybe it's a bit loose, but it seems well seated and the screws are tight.

No, it's not typical for the X220 or any other ThinkPad.

I suppose I'll try seating it again. The real issue is the space bar

The space bars can be noisy. I use to pop it off gently and apply a few very small drops of olive oil or the like on the mechanisms and hinges underneath. This helps.

Reseating the keyboard didn't help.

The spacebar is the issue. Releasing is louder than pushing.

Oiling is an interesting idea

Ask for a warranty replacement. Apparently there are three different manufacturers of the TP keyboards and they're all slightly different in feel and quality. (All have the same part number for a given notebook/region IIRC.)

Will they really send me a new keyboard if I call and complain about a noisy spacebar?

I'm rather hesitant to send the notebook, given some stories I've heard about warranty service. It would be great if they sent me a new keyboard and I could send the current one back.

There are actually three different part numbers in the HMM for the x220 keyboard. Also, http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Th ... 237/page/2
