my beloved X200 with WWAN 3G card has been working fine, serving me very well.

However, recently it has refused to read the SIM card. it could not register the SIM card is in the SIM card slot.
I use the same SIM card on another machine, no problem at all, thus very likely the SIM card slot in X200 is broken/loose.

This out-of-warranty X200, is now limited to only Wifi on mobile communications, thinking to find out what options available to fix this SIM card slot of X200 or X201?
(does it require a total replacement of the motherboard, or if there are possible replacement parts)

thks for any information, hope to get it fix... return my favorite X200 back into pristine condition.

You can use a wwan card with the integrated sim slot ( whitelist removed BIOS is needed)

Or keep your wwan card and use an universal holder like this

this would mean the SIM card slot is embedded into the WWAN 3G card, internally inside X200.

I would still hope to fix the X200 onboard SIM card slot, so that the SIM card can be easy accessible, and use on other devices as well.

No the SIM slot is soldered on the MB but, as you can see, you can use alternate ways if the original slot is broken.

Obviously replacing the original slot would be the preferred solution, but find a technician with the necessary skill/equipment to solder it may not be that easy.
