Hi,

I have been looking around for a new laptop and so far x220 is the best candidate for me. But I am actually wondering whether lenovo would release a new X series, perhaps improved model of x220. are there any rumors around, since i dont really need it until april and i can wait till then.
btw my candidate is:

what do you think? should i wait if there is going to be a better model? i will be using this machine for like 3-4 years.

Sincerely,
Erdem

I'm also wondering when new models will be released and whether the IPS panel will be available in next models. Another problem is that X220 i7 configurations are no longer available over here. i5 with HDD only for the price of i7 model from your link.

Lenovo will release new ThinkPads when Intel releases the new Ivy Bridge CPUs later this year, but I think the answer to your question for most people is going to be no. Here's why, while the Ivy Bridge CPUs will offer better performance only those who push the CPU, typical notebook usage i.e. Office and Internet does not do this, will likely notice any difference in the CPUs. Battery life will be another area where Ivy Bridge offers improvements, but the X220 already gets incredible battery life. I get six hours on my 6-cell. I'd say unless you need top performance or as much battery life as possible, I'd go with the X220, but that's me. USB 3.0 might be a reason to wait too if you need that, but you can get an ExpressCard on eBay for $20 or less. Good Luck.

Yes, it does, but only X220 with the i7 do. If you went with the i3 or i5, they do not have it.

I agree with the above advice if April, 2012 is your deadline.
I'm "getting by" with my X201t with an i7 and 500gb hard drive until the fall. Then I plan to upgrade to a Windows 8 laptop with the successor to the X220t.

I'm running Windows 8 Developer preview on an extra X201t now, and the touch experience is so much more accurate and usable than Windows 7 Professional sp1 even with the Lenovo and SimpleTouch software enhancements on the Windows 7 X201t.

I don't want a keyboardless tablet, but I do want a laptop with touch.

I liked the "Metro" interface so much on Windows 8 Developer Preview that I replaced my Blackberry Torch with a Window Phone 7 phone. Integration of the phone with windows live skydrive and with the laptop really works well.

I think the x220's only been shipping for 9 months hasn't it? So I would have though a major refresh is a little way off. Incremental improvements in CPUs and HDDs and so on will happen though.

Is X220 (any configuration) still available ? There are currently no X220 in shops here ... strange.
