Hi,
Just wondered if anybody had any opinions/information regarding the condition of a battery that has never been used with a date of manufacture of 27/07/09? Will it have suffered significant degredation? Or has anybody bought a new battery recently from lenovo and noticed the date of manufacture to be quite old?

My understanding of Lithium batteries is that in general, they do start to degrade as soon as they are made.
The quality of the battery and how it was stored probably is a consideration as well.

I would try the battery, and after a few charge/discharge cycles see what the battery software says.

The storage life of Li ION batteries is generally very good, but is dependent on the charge level and (mainly) on the storage temp.

If kept at good temperatures the declared storage life is usually 5 years but can be higher, even 15 years, depending on the cell chemistry.

Just check the initial charge on the first use, if its around 40/60% the battery is very likely in good condition.

Just got the battery. On initial operation it was at 0% charge! This is not surprising as the date of manufacture is 30/04/2008.
As the battery was only £25 I guess i'll see how it goes.
The cycle count is zero.
