Hello, ok firstly I have never posted in a forum before so hopefully I have posted this in the right place. :?

I have recently bought a secondhand X201s. The guy I bought it off said it started up into windows 70% of the time and occasionaly crashed. When the laptop arrived it wouldn`t even boot up at all. It seems to be powering up (or trying to) all the lights are on but there`s no display at all, the screen is completly blank. I have tried the taking out the power and battery, holding down the on button for 30seconds trick but that didn`t help. I thought I might need a bios update so I burned one to cd and to usb (x201s has no cd drive) the laptop didnt seem to recognise the usb stick or the external cd drive. So I`m a bit stuck on what the problem may be.

I also made sure the hard drive and ram were in correctly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try removing the memory and starting. If still no beeps in my opinion, unfortunately, you need a new motherboard.

Sounds like bad RAM then, try booting it one stick at a time in each slot.

I don't think I've ever seen both sticks be faulty, but I suppose its possible. Unfortunately it seems more likely that its your motherboard now. Any warranty left?

Nah no warranty left unfortunatly. I will take it into a shop and let you know what they have to say about it.

Thanks for the advice.

Try pulling everything not needed to start except memory - battery, wifi, HDD, DVD, etc.
