x201 battery discharged to zero percentage will not recharge

#1 Post by adam02398 » Mon Jan 30, 2012 7:23 am

Have a new x201 battery and new machine with a 3 cycle count, Think tools in Win7 shows "Good" condition.
Machine went to sleep and a few days later the battery was completely discharged and would only start on AC.
The battery tools stated "might take 10 hours or more to completely recharge" and after 12 hours was still "Charging 0%"
The battery light is flashing orange.
Have reset, removed battery, and put on AC again for another about 7 hours and it still won't move from 0%.
Have tried a bigger 85W power pack but didn't make a difference. Can only start on AC, doesn't appear to hold any charge.
The power pack is cold.

Now after a few reboots the Password Manager has come up stating "Your Windows password was recently changed please enter your Windows password to synchronize with Client Security Solution". Password hasn't been changed though.

Not sure what to try next.

Looks like the battery died, was it a genuine OEM? I had the exact same symptoms with my X60s battery that was part of a recall by IBM due to failures.

It's also very possible that the charging circuitry on the motherboard is faulty. If this is a new machine call Lenovo support.

My T400 is doing the exact thing: Cycle count is 15, it is solid green (condition in the utility that is) but the meter reads 0%.

Is it the battery or the charger?

Thanks.

Does the battery work fine? If power manager is just not reading it right try reinstalling.
