Is everyone able to pull SD card out of the slot easily after you push it all the way in and it clicks? I thought it was supposed to stay in place once clicked. Is this an issue with X220 or my SD Card slot? I don't have any other to test it for the next week so I just wanted to see if everyone can just pull it out without having to click it first?

you're supposed to click it in and click it out.   it should click out to around 1/4" and not bind on removal.

if you're trying to remove it without pushing in to click first then your procedure is incorrect.

I assume this is normal because it sounds to me that the click and spring mechanism only serves to push the SD card out so you can easily pull it, and it does not actually "LOCK" the card in place. I thought once you push it to click, it would be locked or secured in there, but it looks like it is never secured. The click mechanism does not do anything to hold it in place.

Therefore my guess is, it is not a design flaw or malfunction, looks like it is the way it's supposed to be.

some devices will "soft" lock the card using the notch on the right side of the SD card.   my DSLR has both a CF and SD slot and the SD slot does indeed lock the card in place.   you can force the card out but the camera isn't happy about it, especially when you try to reinsert.   it then tries to eject it since the clicker cycle is out of sync.

i just tested my X220 and the card doesn't physically lock in place.   the card stays in place (per your original question) but will de-sync the clicker cycle.   you're best using the proper procedure.

does your card fall out or were you just curious about the click mechanism in general?

Thanks. That's correct. The card does not fall out, but I have been going crazy trying to figure out what is causing my computer to wake up on its own while in the bag. I am not sure if it every woke up on its own when sitting still on my desk overnight, so I was checking everything I can, basically putting it to sleep and moving it around, shaking, moving it in and out of the bag, trying to push the lid down, and of course checking other moving parts, when I realized the SD card was sticking out a bit. I pulled it out, and re-inserted and tried a few things, but I still cannot confirm that the problem is originated by the SD card.

With thinkpad, clicker woulnd't really go out of sync, because when you pull it out without pushing to click first, next time you insert it, it will go all the way in, you won't have to click. There is also no force involved when removing it, you can give it a try.

do you keep anything magnetic in your bag?   perhaps you're tripping the hall-effect sensor in the lid (top center near the camera) without knowing it?   the X220 sleeps using a neodymium magnet in the center bottom of the chassis.   if a strong outside force overcomes it with magnetism then the X220 could wake from sleep.

it's probably not tied to your SD card.

I don't think I do, but it makes me wonder if there is one near where I place my computer bag. I will have to check this.
