New model after x220

#1 Post by netpenthe » Fri Feb 10, 2012 6:43 pm

Any ideas when/what the replacement for the x220 will be?

A subnotebook with a 12.5" screen sporting the Ivy Bridge platform. :D

No, really, we'll know for sure when the roadmap is released (or leaked).

Anyone who *does* have access to the roadmap at the moment is under an NDA.

Q3 this year is my completely unqualified guess.

Let's just hope for a high resolution + IPS screen option
Current: X1 Carbon Gen 3 - 20BT-S1LV00 - i5-5300U - 8GB DDR3L - WQHD Touch - 256GB SSD

I'm wondering this as well. But Lenovo can "surprise" by removing the IPS option at all in new version (as they did with T series) because of some blah blah. I'm always waiting for a new model with some kind of fear what they ruin next time (the T430u ruined keyboard is another warning). Unfortunately new and old models availability usually does not overlap (at least not here) so I can not rush to buy the good old model when the new one is officially announced :( I hope that the information about new model leaks before the older model is no longer available, just in case ...

BTW new Panasonic CF-SX1 looks nice, 12.1" 1600x900 with internal DVD drive.

12.1" 1600x900 is excellent, but still not as good as 12.1" 1400x1050. I went to dyanamism.com and discovered that there is a "Premium" version of the SX series with an English-only keyboard! The Premium models with SSD and the small battery weigh 2.47 lb, which is pretty good. Had Panasonic done away with the DVD drive, it would have been down to around 2.2 or 2.3 lb.

I'd agree SXGA+ is the best resolution ever, regardless of the screen size, but I think HD+ on a 12" is too small for me. Right now I'm staring at a HP dm4t with the HD+ matte LCD. With the 131 pixel density is as small as I'd personally go. I'd quality over quantity, which is why the 125 pixel desnity on the X220 is perfect.

Don't you think it will be a Windows 8 machine, released in October or November? That's what I'm counting on.

I've been running Windows 8 Developer Preview on an X201T. The touch function works much better than on Windows 7 Professional with Lenovo enhancements like SimpleTouch 2.1.
First Thinkpad 755CX in 1995. First IBM: PC 1982 8088 w 64K RAM, dual floppy. Currently in use:
X230T with Win8Pro x64, i7, 500gb ssd; W700 WUXGA RAID 1 Blu-Ray W7Pro x64, occasionally a T61p with Win7Pro x64

On past behaviour across the industry..... new laptop models are driven on new releases by hardware componentry suppliers, not software componentry suppliers.

New model release will follow Ivy Bridge CPU release in April and mostly will involve CPU upgrades. May be USB3 and/or Thunderbolt. Probably no switching to double resolution LCD.
