Hi All, got myself an X201

#1 Post by K_X201 » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:45 pm

Hi All,

Well after a few years with an X200 I picked up an X201 and I must say it is really nice. Touch and feel is the same as the x200. I got the x201 becase of the better processor and the addition of a web cam (I was looking to retrofit one to the x200 but sourcing parts was expensive) and the touchpad. Well anyway its very good laptop but I have a few questions, my laptop did not come with Bluetooth so I'm thinkng of getting a bluetooth daughter card out of my old x61 (again a really good machine I love the X series) will this work in my x201? and I have a WWAN card in an old X60 tablet ( ) would this also work in the x201 or is some bios modding required?

Any help would be great,

Thanks,

K

EDIT: WWAN upgradable so just needs a wwan card.

Quick question after I install the bluetooth module will I need to upgrade the status LEDs? to show the bluetooth activity or is it just a case of getting a new clear plate like this

will the LED for the bluetooth status already be there?

Welcome to the forum!
The Bluetooth module for the X201 is different from the one in the X61. Yes, the LED status indicator is already there.

Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome EOMtp, really enjoying my x201 so far.

Well I opened it up today to find out where the bluetooth card would go (I got one that will fit the x201) and I couldn't see where it goes. I checked under the touchpad (this where it goes for a x201 tablet). Does anyone know where it would go? Also to give some feedback, I tried the WWAN card from my x60 tab in the x201 but I got the error on boot so had to remove it. Now I am looking for an ericsson card from the bay of E.

Any help with locating the bluetooth card location appreciated.

K

EDIT: Just bought an Ericsson F3507G wwan card will update when it arrives.

The BT module is in the lower left corner of the LCD lid behind the bezel.
Installation is doable but not as easy as if it were in the base.

Note that if the Ericsson F3507g card is not Lenovo-branded (i.e., if it does not have a FRU#), then you will receive the same 1804 error message. You need something like the following:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=% ... m270.l1313

Error codes:
