Difference between FRU 45N5570 and 44C4872 (palmrest)?

#1 Post by pupster » Wed Apr 18, 2012 8:52 pm

What's the difference between the two FRUS below? I'm interested in replacing my palmrest w/ fingerprint reader on my X301 (Type 2777-CTO) since the plastic casing just in front of the mouse keys is cracked. I downloaded the maintenance manual for the X301, and there are TWO different FRUs listed on page 155 of the PDF for the palmrest (item #20; http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 441_03.pdf).

I'm ready to buy one of the two replacement parts, but I'm not sure which one to get. Seems like one of the parts has "sub-assemblies." What are those, and does having them included make the install job a lot easier?

The x301 had two palm rests available - the difference being the touchpad. One is a standard Alps the other a Synaptics with Multitouch capabilities.

I would double check this, but I'm pretty sure the 45N5570 is the Synaptics; I have had both & I much prefer the Synaptics.

IIRC there is a thread at the Notebook Review Lenovo forum with their respective FRU numbers.
