The question is whether the "upgrade" will be IPS or LenovoUglyTN(tm). Also good news for X220 owners

I've seen other sites where no HD+ was mentioned. I'd say until confirms this, it's not a certainty.

the x1 carbon with the chicklet keyboard looks like a black MBA... gotta love conformity!

None of them look particularly elegant. Never used an Island keyboard but it seems to be the future sadly - I'll stick with my current laptop until it's too slow.

The de-facto definition of an "Ultrabook" is "looks like MBA". Gotta admire Apple even if you hate their guts!slangeditorial wrote:the x1 carbon with the chicklet keyboard looks like a black MBA... gotta love conformity!

I hope I don't have to choose between IPS and 1600 x 900.
The X1 Carbon looks attractive. But judging from the photos I have seen so far, it doesn't seem like it has IPS on it as the vertical view angle seems rather poor. And battery life is a concern. Perhaps I should hold onto my X220 for another year until the X1 series gets better or the X2xx series gets thinner.

I'd love it if this were IPS.khtse wrote:I hope I don't have to choose between IPS and 1600 x 900.

I certainly hope it doesn't get any thinner. Making it thinner means more compromises in functionality like smaller drives and worse keyboards. Moving to a 7mm HDD was what finally stopped me from getting an X220 to replace my X201 despite being tempted by the IPS screen. To me the whole point of the X2xx series is the amount of power in that form factor; even the Alienware M11x "gaming ultraportable" with its nVidia GPU has a smaller screen and weaker CPU than the equivalent X200/201/220.khtse wrote:or the X2xx series gets thinner.

Forget about 1600x900, the X220 story repeats itself.

I did confirm with Lenovo there will NOT be an HD+ screen. LaptopMag reported there would be, but that was a misquote and untrue. The display options will remain the same for the X230, 1366 x 768 regular or 1366 x 768 IPS.
