x301 secondary harddrive not recognized

Hi all: i ran into an issue with a 2nd HD in the drivebay of a x301 that leaves me a little puzzled.
I got one of the esata adapters that are on the bay and used it with a 7mm 320 g drive. Using the original battery on the x301, the drive gets recognized , installed and is accessible under win7 pro/64. So all is good here!
As soon as i switch the battery to a original lenovo battery that i bought as a backup (i.e. not the one it came with but the official lenovo replacement), guess what?>>>no more 2nd HD!!!
As soon as you switch back to the original battery, all is good again.
Does anybody have any idea what is going on here and what to do about it??
