X220: Buy now or wait a few more days?

#1 Post by Sleepless » Thu May 31, 2012 9:48 am

I read that the X230 launch is scheduled for next week (June 5th).
From past experience, can someone try and predict what will happen to the X220 prices? The machines currently start at around US$800. Will prices go down even further? Will they go up? Stay the same? Or will the sale be discontinued?
Thanks!

It really is anyone's guess. Some folks got what turned out to be very good deals on X220's in the first week of release. It's pretty much a wait and see. The good news is that the specs of both are now pretty well known, so you're in a good position to buy based on pricing and if you'd prefer the x220 vs. the x230 or vice versa.

They keep the pricing fairly random. Otherwise people would just wait for the best price. If you've found a good price on the X220, I say buy it.

I would imagine that the x220 price will drop but it is hard to say how much.

I just bought a x220 and received it today. Everything seems decent except for the first boot where I could see some backlight bleed on the bottom of the IPS screen. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse... I'm curious if the new x230 has this issue as well.

My trigger finger is also twitching. What will the lenovo direct selling do? Suddenly stop offering X220 and start selling X230? Are there any hints on pricing- would it be the same as the current model or are we likely to see a price rise?

I have the same issue with x220 IPS backlight bleeding on boot against black background. Normal use cannot really notice. Owned +3 months everything fine I would not worry.

Just bought a X230. I configured it for what i wanted online at Lenovo. Called Lenovo and asked what kind of deal can you give me? I was given a "lojack deal" today that was pretty impressive. Let's just say I would buy X230's all day long over a sale priced X220. Excellent deal. Call them, you have nothing to lose!

Is the screen Matte or glossy? I can't see a thing on the these mirror like glossy screens that the average pos laptop has.
