Am confused by the options. Can I use a drive that is SATA III in my X201.

Here are the drives I'm looking at...

For example, would this drive work?

BTW, I'm running Ubuntu 12.04

Yes, you can use a SATA III drive in your SATA II equiped X201 - it'll just run at max SATA II speeds. It's unlikely you notice any difference except in benchmarks in my opinion.

That's a nice, big SSD. Ubuntu 12.04 will be swimming in all that space (since it takes about 6gb for a base install). Will make for a snappy machine, good luck.

Thanks Wolfman. Right now I'm using 291 GiB, and of course, most of that is NOT the OS...

The Seagate Momentus XT might be worth a look. It's hard drive with a flash drive attached. Once it figures your usage patterns, it offers near SSD performance for boot times and application launch times for commonly used files. It's also far more cost effective.
