Putting an OS on SSD
Putting an OS on SSD
I have just purchased an X200 tablet along with a used Fujitsu Lenovo branded SSD. My SATA to USB adapter must be
faulty because even though the power light goes on, the drive isn't recognized when I attach it via USB.
My desktop does, so my plan is to install the original HD and the SSD into free SATA slots and do the clone from there.
I see no reason why that wouldn't work but my question is are there drivers or some other thing that I should do to prepare the X200? BIOS etc?
Thanks in advance

Re: Putting an OS on SSD
Best way to clone is to put the target drive in the main drive bay, and put the original drive in the USB enclosure. However, I've read that cloning a mechanical drive onto a SSD is not a good idea. Best to do a fresh install of the OS on the SSD.
On the other hand, seems there are others who don't foresee much problem with cloning...

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
Re: Putting an OS on SSD
Because my USB/SATA adapter appears to be faulty the drive that's outside the machine can't be seen, that's why I'm using the
more convoluted route of attaching both to my desktop.
There are 3 partitions on the original drive so If I ever need to restore then I'll need to duplicate them. But I think I'm just going with a clone of the C partition and call it a day.
But more importantly is there anything I need to do with the X200? Or will it accept the SSD right off the bat?
Thanks

You didn't say what OS you are running, so you should read this before proceeding....tim S wrote:I see no reason why that wouldn't work....

Re: Putting an OS on SSD
Well how easy was that! I attached the original hard drive and the SSD to free
SATA connectors in my desktop. I used EASEUS free TODO backup software which
listed all the drives in my computer. I selected to clone HD2 to HD3, it listed the
three partitions on the original drive (HD2) which I elected to keep. It showed me
how it was going to partition the smaller SSD and asked if I was OK with the selection.
30 minutes later I fired up my X200 with the SSD without a single glitch!

Can you run HDtune free edition and post the screenshots? Many thanks
