Upgrading my X201 Tablet

Hi everyone,

My X201 tablet's battery needs replacing, and I have decided to order an SSD and upgrade its memory.

Its processor is an Intel Core i7-L640, currently with 4GB and a 500GB HDD.

I was thinking of installing a Crucial C400 128GB SSD and upgrading to 8GB.

First, would this show much of a difference in performance or is there a different SSD you would recommend?

Second, which memory should I choose? Is there much of a difference between 1.5V and 1.35V?

The three choices of memory that I've narrowed it down to are:

1. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=62112&vpn ... TECHNOLOGY

2. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=65094&vpn ... TECHNOLOGY

3. http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. ... 1264BF1339

Which would you choose?

Can anyone see any compatibility issues with these items?

Thanks in advance, everyone!

Do you think you'd benefit from a 8GB upgrade? I ask because typical usage won't see much of a difference. If you're just doing Office and Internet, it's a waste of money. I don't think the 1.5V vs 1.35V makes any difference.

I'd buy the memory and SSD on price. ThinkPads aren't picky these days when it comes to memory these days. Failure rates are low for SSDs and they're all fast. If you have a problem down the road, it's probably more bad luck than anything else. As always, have a good backup.

You might want to take a look at the Seagate Momentus XT. It's a hard drive with a flash drive attached. Once it figures your usage patterns, it offers near SSD performance for boot times and commonly used applications. Plus you've got a lot more space left over. That's only thing I disliked about my X200 and X200t with SSD, I had to put everything on an external drive. Good luck and welcome to TPF.
