Hi friends,

Do you notice that there is a promotion of upgrading to Windows 8 in $14.99 through Lenovo website? It said that you have to buy a Win 7 computer after June (30?). But the thing goes more easily... It looks that anyone can always get the promotion code by registering through this link:
http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/?ipromoID=TMM27443&

If you are interested, please report your result here. I got one for my X200 tablet. Good luck! Thanks.

Cheers!

Terms & Conditions wrote:Customers will be able to purchase a downloadable version of Windows 8 Pro. An optional installation DVD is available for an additional fee, plus shipping and any applicable taxes or duties. Customers can also choose to create their own installation media on DVD or USB media after downloading Windows 8.
So...they aren't even saying it's to cover shipping.

Well, I seem to remember free upgrade promotions in the past. I definitely got a free Vista Business upgrade DVD from Sony since I bought an XP Vaio within a certain time window. Ah well...

No shipping.

And I found that an X200 tablet is not qualified for the upgrading offer, as I didn't receive the email for PROMOTO CODE. But X220 is. My question is, can I install Win 8 on my X200 tablet by using the X220 tablet promoto code of purchasing? Well, the MicroSoft said it is impossible, but I am waiting for the answer from people who will have tried it or have an certain idea of how it works.

I think Pro activates with a key rather than with KMS.
Do they supply a key?

Update:

I did received a promoto code from Microsoft yesterday, even though I registered with My X200 tablet.

The issue is when I tried to check the compatibility using the upgrade assistance, it said that the secure boot and screen resolution are not compatible. And in Lenovo's upgrade instruction, it also shows that X200 is not fully compatible with Win 8. Does that mean all X200 tablet users have to give up the Upgrade? Maybe should wait the release of Surface?

The form at windowsupgradeoffer.com does no verification of model or make of computer. The only thing it appears to check is that you entered a purchase date of June 2, 2012 or later. There is no way for them to verify in real-time what you entered is true. So type in anything you want, and wait for the discount code to be e-mailed to you. :) I've received two so far, and my X220 is running Windows 8 using one of them. The code is not tied to a specific model and does not appear to have an expiry date. It simply discounts the purchase price of the $40 Windows 8 Pro upgrade. What you download is the same regardless of what discount was applied. In fact, the "upgrade" installer appears to work just fine on a fresh boot disk, so I'm thinking that $15 actually gets you a full install of Windows 8, whether or not you have an existing Windows license...
