I have a user coming to me with a fairly new x220 with random shutdown (power off) issues. So far in event log, I see a lot of acpi thermal trip. Laptop is from may of this year.. still looks newish, nothing blocking the vents.
I dont hear anything wrong with the fan, i plan to run this through the pc doctor or whatever it has now for 3-4 days 24/7 to see if I encounter it. Last but not least, reimage the pc also.
This is first x220 out of 25 thats having this "thermal" issue. Anyone else have similar problem before ?

My X220: 4286-CTO, i7, 8GB, 120GB SSD, WIN7-Ultimate-64. Ordered/arrived in June 2011.
I run this X220 on battery power in many environments and in stationary positions. No problems.
However,
At home with the X220 on my lap in a chair, on some occasions Windows randomly powers it off. This happens when it is in motion as I get out of the chair. I then power on and Windows 'resumes processing the system' without incident.
I am usually in my home office and the chair thing is rare, so it may not be the thermal thing.

Is this when running on mains or battery? The x220 is prone to loose battery syndrome which will cause shutdowns.

running on battery, right its like slight movement the thing turns off.. weird thing is i had it run the stress test and i have a tech shake it every few minutes and its not turning off, so its hard to say, do i need to lean the computer in a certain direction to turn it off.. sad
