Win 8 and X200 tablet...success

I noticed that the x200 series was not on Lenovo's upgrade to Windows 8 update assistant page,
so with some trepidation I upgraded my x200 tablet from Win 7 ultimate to Win 8 pro.
It all went surprisingly easily! The Windows software download and intstallation took about an hour
and I was good to go except I had no idea of exactly where, or how to get there!
Some fiddling around got me to the new (featureless) desktop and right clicking and opening
'Personalize' got me to Control Panel and Explorer so I was good to go.

What's working/installed? For me everything which includes Bluetooth, the Qualcomm HS-USB card (Win 7 driver).
Gobi1000, installed and opened from the 'old Windows' directory but I've yet to find out how to get it into a tile.
The only software I can't get to work right now is Hot Keys and the only truly poorly implemented thing is shutting
down and 'touch' which is off by about a 3/4" even after adjustments. The pen is fine.
So apart from the learning curve, it's OK by me.

With and SSD I get from start to desktop in about 20 seconds.

What's the resolution of your screen? Do you get all the snap features work peacefully? I also don't know what is the secure boot feature... Keep us posted!

I finally got the hot keys working today! I had a lot of trial and error with the newest (Win 7 Hot key driver).
Even under Win 7 it would not display the WAN card although WiFi and Bluetooth were fine. Under Win 8 it was the same,
still no WAN. I found an old version 5.3.2.00 which showed all 3 under Win 7 but it wouldn't install under Win 8;
Incorrect version was the message. So I tried installing it with XP compatibility, still no go. I tried turning the radios
off using the switch and then on but still the WAN wasn't listed. Finally I turned off the laptop, took a nap for an hour
and when I turned it back on all three radios were listed and switchable under Fn+F5, go figure!
On a final note Fn+F5 does not display on 'Metro', nor will it automatically change you over to the 'desktop' side. You have to be on the 'desktop' side for it to work.

My screen res is 1280 X 800 and I don't know what 'secure boot is.
So all that's left is to find away to make the touchscreen more accurate. I'm guessing it's a driver issue and I'll have to wait for them to be updated.

what about your power manager and...fingerprint? my x220 power manager doesn't work and my cpu speed isn't trottling. and fingerprint drivers don't work.

I went to Control Panel - Biometric Devices and enrolled into Authen Tec. As far as logging on is concerned, it works seamlessly. My Power Manager came with Windows 8, it's pretty basic but it's there.
Everything you might need to check on is available through Desktop then by pushing the Windows key + X.

thank you for the previous post; the fingerprint software is working now on my X200Tablet with windows 8.

In general, things are working fine. I think there is no official support of the X200T for reason that it lacks multiguestures, but windows 8 is really working good.

Can you clarify the way you were able to get the Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard working? did you installed with compatibility for windows XP?

I still have the following issues in system management:
Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard
PCI simple communication controller
PCI serial port
Do you have drivers for all of them installed properly?

Finally, i'm unable to get bluetooth working. I think my bluetooth was 'off' when installing windows 8, I have no clue how to fix it, as the hotkeys aren't working, even not in desktop mode (i'll try the bios?)

I have 2 devices that are currently without drivers.
The first is the PCI Serial Port.
The second is PCI Simple Communications Controller.
I haven't found out what they are and as of now the lack of either one
has not affected my day to day usage.
I'm guessing the PCI Serial Port is the Express Card Reader and the PCI
Communications Controller is perhaps the Turbo Memory Slot.
My X200 Tablet uses the Qualcomm HS-USB card for broadband and mine is also
has the Gobi1000 GPS.
Both the card and GPS installed just fine with the latest Win7 drivers which didn't
even require me using the compatabiliy mode.
However I don't use the broadband 3G and I don't have a SIM card so I don't know
if it really works or not. That said I can turn the card on and off using Fn+F5 hot keys.
In the settings/network menu, it shows Mobile Broadband "Insert a SIM"
so I guess it's good?
As to bluetooth. Mine installed automatically under Win 8. I had to click on the small arrow
near the clock to 'show hidden icons'. The bluetooth icon was there and right clicking it
got me to the menus I needed to activate my mouse etc.

I'm not familiar with the Ericsson card but if the card and blue tooth show OK in Device Manager
then all you need is to get Hot Keys working. No easy feat but it will have to be done.
Yes, using a nail is better than the tip on the finger but I'm still suffering along with poor accuracy.
My screen is at least 3/4 of an inch off, so closing programs and any tight work is a no go.
The stylus is fine. I'm waiting for improved drivers but for now it's OK.

all the rest seems to be working right.

running windows 8 pro x64 with explorer from win 7 pro x64 because hate metro.

I still think the Thinkvantage Hot Key install (or lack of it!) is the answer or one answer to getting these cards to work.

I don't know if you found this yet; open the settings menu (as if you were shutting down). Click on Change PC Settings and open Wireless. See if the card is there. I found it is also possible to turn the card on from there when the Hot Key progrqam doesn't work. As an example, I tuned on Airplane mode just for the heck of it but when I turned it
off the WAN card wouldn't show even though I turned it on using Fn+F5. I went to the wireless menu and tuned it on from there and it's back to 'normal' now.

These issues sound similar to my fresh install of Windows 7.

For the Hotkeys you need the Lenovo Power Management Driver (different to Power Manager) - I'm assuming the Windows 7 version will work. For the other issues (PCI) I think the Chipset drivers need to be installed - 4 if I remember correctly..

I was finally able to install successfully the Wwan drivers under windows 8 for the X200T (Ericsson F3507g) - thanks to Ben Lee, who pointed me in the right direction with his X220T (Ericsson F5521GW – see http://www.bibble-it.com/2012/03/17/f55 ... novo-x220t).

1. Uninstall all previous drivers for the wwan card (under programs or device manager).
2. Download the latest working drivers for windows 7.
IMPORTANT for the Ericson F3507g: I took the Ericsson F5521gw/F3607gw Wireless WAN Drivers, but not the latest version, because after version 6.3.3.6 (83Wo12WW), it was the end of support for the following thinkpad models:
• ThinkPad L410,L510
• ThinkPad SL300,SL400,SL400c,SL410,SL500,SL500c,SL510
• ThinkPad T400,T400s,T500
• ThinkPad W500
• ThinkPad X200,X200s,X200 Tablet,X301
So be sure to use for those models the version 6.3.3.6 that you can find here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... wo12ww.exe
3. Click to install the drivers. After unzipping, don’t start setup!
4. Go to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WWANER, where the files were unzipped.
5. Right click on setup.exe, choose properties, open compatibility tab, Change settings for all users, and set “Run this program” as “Windows 7” then apply.
6. Now run a command prompt as administrator (just type cmd on the start screen, right click, run as administrator option is at the bottom of the screen).
7. Type “cd \”
8. Type "cd C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WWANER”
9. Type “setup.exe /wNOAUTOSENSING /Wuselastknownradiostate”
10. When finished, you’ll find the mobile broadband icon listed, and you will be able to connect.

To anyone who is considering the upgrade to Windows 8. I did a clean install, and most worked out of the box, partly after updates from Lenovo update (ThinkVantage System Update) except:

- Fingerprint software: resolved as Tim mentioned by installing the software under Control Panel - Biometric Devices and enroll Authen Tec
- Camera: installed the windows 7 drivers (setup.exe with windows 7 compability)
- Pen/touch drivers: installed the windows 7 drivers (setup.exe with windows 7 compability)
- Bluetooth: I’m not sure what did the trick. I installed several packages, but was only able to get it working after following Tim suggestion, and installing the windows 7 hotkey package (as always, with windows 7 compability).

i install win 7 and win 8 on two partition.In win 7 i run system update to install all driver (include Ericson F3507g) from lenovo site. In win 8, with Ericson F3507g, i choose update driver and browse to folder windows of win 7 and it auto install driver WAN for you.
