Neoprene second skin for x220

#1 Post by ThinkGreen » Thu Nov 01, 2012 3:18 am

I need to buy a neoprene folder/second skin for my X220.
Do You know some models that for sure fit well with this strange sized model ?

For now I've failed trying some folders like Tucano Colore BCF1314 (Too big) and Manhattan ICA-NB3 P12-PW (Too small)

I'm evaluating to buy a Kraun KR5S or a Nilox 14NXBO0212003.

But I'm not sure if both (Or none) can fit well with the notebook.

To me, neoprene is neoprene - I haven't noticed much difference between the cheap and the expensive, so I tend to go cheap.

That said, the X220 is an odd size - I picked up this Roocase from Amazon, and it fits like a glove. A *BIT* tight on the sides, but I'd prefer that to sloppy loose as my other option. It seems fine for what I need it for - living in a backpack, holding the power supply, an USB stick or 2.

It's for my X220 with 6-cell battery. It MIGHT fit the 9-cell, as there's about 1/2 - 3/4 inch room on top. Could be a PERFECT tight fit for that.

That model seems to fit very well apart to be a little too thick.
Unfortunately I have never seen it in Italy.
Is it conceived for 12" or 13" models ?

For what concern the neoprene material... I ensure to You that from product to product there is much difference in terms of quality and type of neoprene.

I think this one can be had in Italy - I'm sure they import lots of Chinese made stuff, too. :-) There's a bunch on eBay as well, but I went with Amazon because they could get it to me in 2 days, and have a liberal return policy.

Here's the link on Amazon I used:

Neoprene - some seems to be thicker than others. This is one of the thicker ones, but it's "Good Enough".

In general the major part of 12.1" sleeves could fit well or is it better opt for 13.3" models, like those aimed for mac pro ?

I have a Targus neoprene pocket case that fits a X220 with a 6-cell.

It's still a pretty snug fit, but I put it with the hinge/battery bulge next to the zipper with the pocket on the bottom of the notebook- this way items I put in don't crush into the display. The two inner lips protect the computer from the zipper. They just have to be pulled over the top and bottom edges and zipped in.

This is what the item looks like: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WSYZR2/
Targus is pretty common/readily available in the US, not sure what the situation is in Italy. Good luck!

The ebay specials fit the x220 6-cell perfectly. Like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-12-1-inch-Bl ... 2c649482d8 . If you have a 9 cell, you can buy the lenovo 12W case.

The Targus seems to be really perfect for our X220.

Some days ago however I've ordered anoter sleveed, designed for 12.1" notebook... in the hope it will fit wiht x220, too.

I recently purchased a neoprene bag from Amazon. This is like some of the sleeves above but has handles which I find very convenient. With a 9cell battery my x220 fits perfectly. At $12 it's a steal.

The above linked Nilox product has revealed to be too tight... I've immediately changed it with a Miracase product (For 13.3 and 14.1) that unfortunately is too big.

Now I'm waiting for a specific 13/13.3 model (That "for sure" will fit well with x220 and his 6 cell battery)

For those who are interested I point out that Kraun KR.5S fits very well with Lenovo X220 and 6 cell battery.
The notebook nees to be put with front side inside first otherwise the sleeve remains too stretch.
