1-21 com/serial ports are in use?

Hello

I have a problem with my almost brand new Lenovo X220, serialport 1-21 are in use and I need to have 5 serial ports free below number 16. It's for controlling an fully computorized astronomical telescope. How do I free some com-ports and what is it that takes so many ports?
