HDAPS battery life and hard drive wear?

Hi,
I just set up HDAPS on my X201 (I've checked it works), but I have two questions:

Doesn't the constant checking of the accelerometers eat up more battery? (I mean, significantly more battery.)
The system is quite sensitive, and I've noticed it parks the HDD even if I move it around a bit. Doesn't that wear out the hard drive?
