Pressure spots on screen (X220)?

#1 Post by chubbyfatazn » Sun Jan 13, 2013 2:13 pm

Last summer I got my screen replaced under warranty due to the appearance of a pressure spot that made a patch of pixels noticeably brighter than the rest of the screen.

Fast forward to now, and I notice that the same thing is happening in the exact same spot. The patch is smaller than the previous one, but it's still noticeable to me. This is a machine that stays level on a desk for the majority of its operating time, and if it's traveling with me it's in a little padded case inside my compartmentalized backpack.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it have something to do with the way I open the lid? I'm about to run out of warranty and I don't know if Lenovo will reject any claim I make since it's happened before. Thanks.

Unfortunately - a known issue, and without any fault on your part:

In short - Lenovo should replace this under warranty. Whether they do or don't may be a hit or miss. Try as you have nothing to lose, and I believe that even if they deny it the first time you ask, you should be able to escalate enough for them to approve it at no cost.

Does the location match the trackpoint cap or is it very close to it ? I got X220 keyboard replacement (different FRU) and noticed that the trackpoint sticks out above the keyboard much more than the old one. It might be source of these issues.

I put a piece of printer paper trimmed over the keyboard when I travel. Just close the lid with it in there. But first you need to adjust your keyboard. Not mounted properly.

Ah, my apologies for not searching deeper for the issue. I chalked it up to user error on my part...

Thanks for the links.

Nope, it's closer to the bottom of the screen. Nearly matches up with the '9' key when the lid is closed.

Related topic regarding quality: I have an old T61. Some software think it was PC Doctor (branded Lenovo) revealed the screen predated the manufacture of the notebook by 2 years! Its still working fine. But at the time I posted online about it and my post was quickly disputed and deleted. This included a third party forum which obviously doesn't operate arms length from Lenovo. And that site is not this one which I can trust as independent.
