Thinkpad X301 and 16GB RAM

#1 Post by madcow » Wed Feb 06, 2013 8:14 pm

I probably made a mistake. I bought 2 8G modules and put them in my Thinkpad X301 but it won't turn on. ThinkWiki said Thinkpad X301 supports 16G of RAM while Lenovo said it supports 8G of RAM. Has anyone put 16G of RAM into their thinkpad x301?

I doubt it supports 16GB. It's based on GM45 and as far as I know, it supports "only" 8GB.

Did you notice the emphasis on "only"? ;-)

Then that is not good for me.

Let's hope the ebay seller is willing to accept the items back.

I recently tried installing 1 8GB module in my X301. This resulted in severe System failure. It didn't even want to enter the BIOS anymore. Luckily this issue was able to be resolved.

I don't recommend anyone trying to install 8GB modules in the X301. It might kill your X301.
