To request a warranty repair you need to be the registered owner of the unit and the warranty should be in effect ie non-expired. You might want to call Lenovo to make sure you are not receiving stolen property. No need to check with local 5-0 IMO but do make the call to Lenovo. Some of the software on the unit however may not be transferable ie third party programs. You need to get the EULA and keys for such software assuming the seller is including that with the package. Aight.

Afaik registration is not required, only an unexpired warrantee and the serial number from the bottom of the thinkpad. You also need to be in a country supported by the warrantee.

Not in the U.S...
You might want to call Lenovo to make sure you are not receiving stolen property.
Lenovo will NOT relinquish this type of information.

In the UK, but not in the U.S. you *might* need a proof of purchase.

Call Lenovo UK directly and ask them upfront what the requirement (local practice) is.

Good luck.

When they were IBM and not Lenovo, I could call support (if there was a warranty) and say that I was trying to avoid buying stolen property. I would then say that I realize that privacy issues would not let them tell me whether it was reported stolen, but I asked if was there any status on the machine that would not let them open a repair ticket. They cannot open a support ticket on anything reported stolen. I don't know if that still works

Use the same method that the police would, meaning profiling. Have you profiled the seller? If something seems out of place then you dig deeper for corroborating information. You don't have to be PC about your profiling. lol
PS richk above suggests a good method -- if needed-- to double check the results of your profiling exercise.

well, have already bought it. the guys just came, we tested the laptop and i paid him. When i went home, i typed the serial No. and machine type in lenovo waranty section and it says warranty is valid till 2015, but doesn't says it's blocked or so. So, should this be considered as everything's OK?!

It will NEVER say anything about a machine being "blocked".

Once you get to call in for a repair, you'll find out whether it's blacklisted.

Good luck.

From what I'm to understand, you wouldn't be able to open a repair ticket.

I've called Lenovo half an hour ago and the representative confirmed that everything with the machine is fine. So, I am happy now.

P.S. Only hopes he told me the truth :)

BTW how can I now protect myself from fraudlent as the guy I bought it from didn't give me any receipt or something? What I mean is I don't want him to come over and says that the laptop is stolen or something like that...

Sounds like you got it from a stranger off some ad in the paper? Should always get something in writing even for a private party sale like the one you just consummated. I would have asked to see his/her receipt if they claim to be the original owner. You need not keep it but it would have given you some comfort that everything is legit. Most likely you are OK. About the only thing you can do now is to intimidate the seller that if they pulled such shenanigans you would call 5-0.
