X201 Battery Replacement

#1 Post by AugustusRookwood » Fri Mar 08, 2013 7:58 pm

The battery on my trusty x201 is down to about half of design capacity (not bad for over 750 cycles, I think). Still fine for everyday use, but I want to get another battery for when I take it in the field. Googling the FRU# (42T4835) has turned up some generic "compatible with" batteries. Are these any good? Thanks!

Non-genuine batteries are hit and miss with more misses than hits. I'd try to source a genuine one if you can. Since you are Stateside check out Lenovo's outlet store.

I actually got lucky buying battery for my t61 and x220. I end up buying it from amazon through this reseller ATC. they are in Califorina and the cells says Panasonic and did not trigger the this is not genuine battery. Its a lot cheaper than the original. You can take a chance.. can always return on amazon

Its not exactly sold by Amazon -- only listed on Amazon. Consequently, the return policy may not be as liberal or customer friendly.

I already made a return, they were nice, didn't cost me or charge me. I ordered 3 instead of 2, they sent me a usps return label. All I did was put it in the same original package & box and tape the label on and drop it off to my local post office. Had 0 problems

I also returned a battery to ATC, for exchange, they were very nice about it. But in the ned, the battery did not perform as well (last as long) as OEM.

Yeah, the 9 cell "compatible" battery lasts about the same as my 6 cell. So no gains, aside from the extra weight.
