"New" X301

#1 Post by schen » Tue Jun 11, 2013 12:48 am

I just received my X301 today. I'm pretty pleased with the whole swap-out from my old X300 since this new machine looks mint and I actually sold the old one for more than I paid for the new one! While I'm sitting here waiting for the OS to load and update, I began researching the idea of updating the RAM to 8Gb. From what I've read, it appears that it's not as straight forward on this model as some others that I've worked with by making certain that it's the correct type and the speed is as fast or faster than spec.

Does, anyone have specific recommendation on this subject? Should I make certain I stick with 1066 speed modules? I've read that there seems to be some Corsair incompatibilities (which I've run into before). Any other issues I should note?

i have three X301, and apart from one of the X301 with a single dead ram slot, the other 2 took the 8 gigs upgrade pretty good. I just use the Samsung 1333 mhz Sodimm that came with my newer thinkpads, and kingston, gskill, hynix worked equally well.

Thanks. That helps. Looking forward to having 8Gb in a ThinkPad for the first time! :D

I use the Samsung RAM too and it's working for me. The one's I use are the 1333Mhz but if I remember correctly it will only run at 1066Mhz. Now the only thing I am considering is whether to create a RAM disk? Does anybody have experience of them? - I tend to have atleast 4gb of RAM free.

Well, the X300 went to it's new home with a happy owner, so I'm officially "all in" on the X301 now. Other than the fact that this particular unit's screen is noticeably better than the old X300, I can say that this SU9400 CPU's machine runs WAY cooler than the old one as well! VERY HAPPY about that!

I've tried quite while ago, unfortunately it was wasting the time.
