USB 3.0 Express card for X220

Hello,
I've been reading a lot about these USB3.0 express cards adapters and I got confused because there are so many options and I don't know what should I buy.
I have a Thinkpad X220 so I know that it could be 34 or 54 mm cards (I prefer 54 mm because it fits perfect and there's no bulges). I also read that Renesas/NEC is the most "plug and play" chip of all the options but I want to be sure.
I'm looking for a USB 3.0 (2x) or a USB 3.0/eSATA combo, compatible with Win 7 and also with Linux.
What adapter do you recommend?
(it doesn't matter if there is some "little" additional work to do to make it work)
What's your experience with those adapters?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.
