x220 for music production having probs

Hi peoples,

As the title suggests, I'm using my x220 to make music. I get alot of glitches and interupts in my audio. I'm running the sound through a usb audio interface (M-Audio Fast Track Pro). I ran DPC Latency checker and it indicates that my x220 should be fine for making music. But there's obviously some processes running that interferes with the audio.

I'm using the W7 Home Prem that came with the x220 with no changes. The Fn F5 wireless radio/blue tooth is off and using web over ethernet cable.
The x220 has i7 cpu, 12gb ram and standard 320gb HDD
Can anyone help point me in the right direction please so I can resolve this and get on with making music.

Cheers,

IFFY

You've got the latest drivers? Maybe you want to dump anything you're not using? I don't know much about audio, but I've seen others saying they're picking up noise from the hard drive. Maybe a SSD, no moving parts, is worth a look.

I have the latest driver for all the gear im using. The noise isn't from the HDD or ground loops. The main (and most annoying) thing is my audio interface (M-Audio Fast Track Pro), it will suddenly glitch and the audio sounds like its been thru a 'bit crusher'. I have to turn it off/on to reset it. Im thinking either the FTP's buffer is filling up (but do doubt this is I have it setup with a large buffer) or there is some sort of interrupt going on with another process (or more) screwing with it (or its usb priorities). Im sure there is a load of stuff that was installed at the factory I don't need, but I don't know what it is I don't need, if you see what i mean. I don't want to just uninstall stuff and lose functionality of my x220.

Is there a list of lenovo factory installed bloatware we really don't need anywhere?

I will be doing a full re-install on a msata ssd at some point. I have a spare w7 pro license that's unused for it. Is there any info on what to get rid of and what to keep/do for a bare-bones-while-maintaining-functionality OS instal?
