x301 - any 1.8" or mSata SSD drive ok to install?

Hi guys!

I am looking to get an SSD to put in my x301 - either a plain vanilla 1.8 or an mSata with an adapter. Will any brand/model work flawlessly? I will be using the regular hdd bay and not the 2nd hdd adapter.Thx!

Other than being 1.8", I don't think there's anything special about X301 drives. If it's a 1.8" SSD, it should work. I don't believe any of the drives Lenovo used in the X300 or X301 supported trim. You might want to look for something else like the Intel 320 or Crucial C300. I know they make some 1.8" mSATA SSD adapters, but I have no experience with or knowledge of them.

The x301 orginally came with either a 64/128GB Toshiba or Samsung or a 160 Gen 2 Intel X-18 SSD plus several 1.8" HDDs
Neither the Toshiba or Samsung supported TRIM but the Samsung 128 can be flashed from Lenovo to Samsung firmware to add TRIM.
See the Lenovo forum or I can send you my cheat sheet - I've done around 7 without a problem.

But there are several second generation Intel X-18 80 & 160gb drives currently on ebay for around same price as a Samsung drive and they do support TRIM out of the box.

My X301 came with the 250 gig disk drive.(5400 rpm) . Not fast but its better then a 4200 rpm drive.
I now have a Lenovo Samsung 128 gig SSD. It is flashed to give me TRIM.Its like a new computer now.The thing is fast.Cold boot up in under 25 sec.
If i never got the SSD i think i would have sold this X301 by now.Love the system but the CPU is little outdated and slow.But with the SSD it runs great.
The X301 now has everything i like about a thinkpad laptop.
Thin and light(about 3lbs and about 1" thick)
dvd burner
13.3" LED (1440x900)
web cam
very nice keyboard
track pad and pointing stick
stereo speaker in nice spot
finger print reader
blue tooth
inter 5300 wi fi
8 gig ddr3 ram
hard drive is only 1.8" but an SSD speeds it up
main battery last good if in good shape
the dvd-rw can be replaced with 2nd battery or HDD adapter
3 usb ports
Display port

Only thing i wish it had was a newer Intel Core i5 cpu.

I haven't posted on the forum for a long time, but, from time to time, I like to help if I can !
I have bought an X301 last week (4057-18G), with a 64 GB Samsung SSD.

I'm planning to buy a 128 GB SSD to replace it.
The site for which I work sells the one I want, its a KC380 from Kingston :

I don't see why it shouldn't work. It's the same format (1.8"), the same connection (Micro-SATA), it's even thinner (5 mm). And the performances are far more better than the original SSD.
I will post when I will have replaced the disk, to let you know if everything works.

Everything works like a charm, the new SSD is absolutely amazing. Great speed (Windows 7 installed in 5 minutes, no less, no more - from an USB key).
I replaced the original two sticks of 2 GB with 2x 4 GB, I took two Corsair CM3X4GSD1066.

The X301 runs very smooth.
