Greetings, people!

First of all i would like to thank this community for helping me to make up my mind regarding my notebook purchase.

After reading a couple of threads i was convinced to pickup secondhand x300.

Nowadays performance was not a priority when making a purchase.

I needed fast reliable notebook for browsing at home, downloading some media, transferring photos from camera directly to external HDD.

I'm finding a possibility now to use this notebook as my music library for network music player (Logitech squeezebox). I dont want to use external HDD for this case as with it the notebook will reduce its mobility in some way.

That's when I found 2nd caddy option when sacrificing DVDROM which I really dont need.

Let's move on to the issue and question.

1. Will i need additional adapters for this one to work or this caddy is already equipped with the right SATA/IDE adapter?
2. Which HDD would You recommend (manufacturer, model) to fit that 7mm and 2.5" limit? I dont need SSD here, HDD will work just fine;)

Thanks in advance!

Small update:

1. Looks like no additional equipment will be required.

2. Settled down to WD Blue HDDs with 500gb of memory. Only thing that I am not sure, that there are two models - WD5000LPVX and WD5000LPVT.

LPVX has better performance (because of SATA6?) but if I'm correct - because of this IDE/SATA connection - both HDDs should perform at same parameters?

Since you're doing a hard drive in the optical drive caddy, you could still a SSD in the main bay especially since all X300 came with them and any you buy might have one. Whether it's SATA II or III doesn't matter since neither can hit SATA II speeds.

In my experience reliable comes down to plain old dumb luck more than anything else. As always, it's a good idea to have a backup.
