Hi all, just replaced the broken motherboard in my first X201.
The used motherboard came without type and serial number and now during startup I receive the error 2200 (type and serial missing).
I know the board has the I5 520M processor on board.
Has anybody the maint diskette or a copy of the file to run on a floppy or the newer version for the USB stick.
Thanks a lot,
Rgds

So I did read the serial and added it to the EEPROM as per instruction in the manual. I dont receive any warning anymore about missing serial an type during startup...
But now the model number listed in the Lenovo Solutions Center is unknow on the Lenovo site and even a search on the net did not produced any info.
I assumed that the model number/type is linked to the serial of the mainboard?
Lenovo solution center gives me at type: 1163-Y20???
I do know that the motherboard has a I5 520M processor...
Somebody has an idea?
Thx!

When you changed the SN did you also change the Machine Type Model number on the line above the SN to match the sticker on the underside of the base?
What number is in there now?
If the sticker is missing or illegible, use this one: 3680FAU
It's a pretty common model although it's m540 cpu but that probably won't make a difference.

I do have the sticker on the base of my computer but it belongs to the old broken motherboard.
I did not find a motherboard with the same processor (for resonable money) so thats why I did not use the old model number from the base.
The old board had a I5 560M CPU while the new board has the I5 520M CPU.
Plus that you actuall cannot change the type/model number as it will be defined by the serial...
The serial matches the one on the sticker on the board (located below RAM memory) itself but the model number is not written on that small label...
The model number which came up after I entered the serial is 1163-Y20

When you change option/field 20 of the HMD, you need to fill out: 1SXXXXYYYZZZZZZZ
where
1S is fixed,
XXXXYYY is your MTM (Type-Model) from the sticker on the bottom, looking like TYPE 2345-UP1
If the TYPE is 2345-CTO, use the 7 characters from the PRODUCTID!
ZZZZZZZ is the 7-character (or larger nowadays) Serial Number from the same sticker, looking like S/N R8-12345
Using the above it would be:
1S2345UP1R812345
Make sure to use CAPITAL letters.
The same TYPE can use different CPUs.
There's no need to fill out the motherboard's serial #, but you can if you want.
PM me your TYPE and S/N if you don't want to publish them here, to help you further.
