#1 Post by mike20030405 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 2:42 pm

wanna buy an New X301(maybe like-new condition) and keep it for a well(for daily surfing/entertainment and light soft development)
At ebay sometimes I could find one but not so often.

How much is it for an New X301?

(I don't know should talk it here or in Marketplace, pls move it to Marketplace if the topic is not appropriate here).

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Here is an appropriate place to post; the Marketplace is intended for buying and selling posts.

There is a "new, never opened" X301 on eBay at the moment for $998 (Buy It Now): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281243588129
The seller appears to ship to Canada. That could be a problem for you as X301 is relatively rare on eBay and as most sellers are in the US, they may not want to ship internationally. You should probably look at completed listings to get an idea of what the market is at nowdays.

I was able to pick up an X301 from eBay last July for $122.50 (including shipping): http://www.ebay.com/itm/300936039422
System was in pretty good shape, although the DVD drive was dead.

Lately prices for the x301 seem to have stabilized in the $200-275 range for a complete machine.
But fewer than fifty have sold on ebay since October and many of those were stripped.

Ray – Is the x301 you mentioned the ‘pig-in-a-poke’ from last year?
How did the little oinker work out and were you happy with the aftermarket battery?
Could you share the seller?

Thank you Admin.
Indeed I had the seller's counteroffer for $xxx less, but not sure if it is a fair price(too expensive still).
Shipping won't be an issue, because I live close to the border and can pick up at south side.
The counteroffer brought my original question: How much does it cost?(how much it should?)
I know it is a trick question, depending how much I love an new X301, and personal financial condition, but, still want to know your guys opinions: How much you want to pay for an New X301 for collection purpose?

For that new X301(Admin mentioned), I offered $100 more than the top price you mentioned, but seems seller still is not satisfied, so I'd give up because it is like a luxury/expensive toy that I can't afford.

@91011 That "pig" was an X300: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 41#p706841 It has since been joined by several other X300 systems and all are doing fine. I'm actually thinking about replacing the X60 systems that everyone in my family is using with the X300. The aftermarket battery was purchased from here: http://www.ebay.com/usr/lunatech-laptop-batteries but apparently he does not have any X300 batteries for sale right now. I don't think I ever ran that battery down to nothing. From memory, I believe that I only used it for two or three hours. I'll post more details about the battery tonight; it's at home.

The other X300 systems came similarly configured: 2GB memory, no HDD, working DVD Multi drive. Two of them came with batteries (factory 3 and 6-cells); not sure about the third. Costs were $113, $141 and $169.

edit: Updated the thread referenced above with battery information.

You should ask yourself the following:

a) What are the chances of you ever bumping into a NIB X301 again?

b) What are the chances of it costing less than this one in the aforementioned set of circumstances?

I have no interest in a "collector's grade" X301, but if the machine were mine I wouldn't let it go under $750-800.

Good luck.
