X200 Camera Upgrade / Issues

Hi I know this topic has been raised before but I need some clarification on a couple of things. I have recently added a new 2.0MP camera from an X201 to my X200 but it does not get detected either in bios or in device manager it does not even come up with unknown device although the LED on the camera does blink faintly upon powering up my laptop I am up to date with bios on 3.22 current version have installed drivers but they fail to initialize. I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me as I'm tearing my hair out with it. :flame:

1. Is there supposed to be an option in the I/O page of the Bios to enable the camera?
2. If there is does this only show up when the camera has been detected by the bios or should it be there permanently?
3. Is the camera part of the bios whitelist?

Thanks in Advance

Did your original X200 come with a camera?
What's the 7-character type of your machine?
The label on the bottom looks like e.g.: TYPE 7458-WQB

Check in BIOS if it is enabled: Security - I/O Port Access - Integrated Camera

Hi no it didn't have one but the LCD cable has the connector as I believe they alll do for future upgrades.
The model is 7459 - CTO (Configured To Order). I have checked the BIOS I/O Security options I have everything except camera including Wiimax which isnt even installed and the fingerprint reader I fitted myself as it didn't have one.
I'm wondering whether the BIOS update I did a month ago is iffy. Or whether the module is defective as it is getting power
Because the LED faintly flickers on boot up I'm going to try Ubuntu to see if cheese picks it up.

I have completely rebuilt this laptop as a project with an a brand new chassis and top lid, brand new Palm wrest with f/p reader, Keyboard and battery it cost me nothing as got it from work free so has cost just the parts about £100 and is now like brand new its just really annoying I have done all this work and the flipping camera won't work

Whenever you see a TYPE XXXX-CTO, also have a look at the PRODUCTID under it, that's the basis for a CTO.
Whazzit?
And what BIOS version do you have?
There's a good HowTo here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/ ... 200-2.html
Read that for checking if you did it right or not.
Maybe that cam is faulty?
If the BIOS does not find the webcam, it will also not list it under options!
AFAIK you'll need to install special software for it (YouCam I think...) to get it going.
And then check using Skype if it's OK now.
Does your Thinklight and Bluetooth work? They're all on the same cable.
Maybe a faulty cable? Not unheard off.

My X200 with webcam is currently in bits (undergoing an X201-motherboard upgrade) and no HD installed yet.
Can't check what software I use.

Hi I don't know the product I'd as the sticker fell to bits trying to remove it lol. I just remembered it was a 7459-CTO.
My current bios revision is 3.22 but am going to flash the dual idea bios if I can find a link that works.
Also the think light and Bluetooth are working fine the weird thing is it seems to be getting power as the led blinks at boot.

The x201 board uprade is planned for the future once the prices of the boards come down a little more, just out of curiosity do the i7 boards fit or is it just the i5s?
Good luck with the mod I hope it all goes to plan it should do though its easy enough.

You wouldnt happen to have a link for that bios would you?

Cheers for your help

The cam-link should always be in the standard (or modded) BIOS as long as you have a working cam.
Yours seems to be bad.
This is the X200/X200s MDL BIOS with whitelist removed and Slic2.1 in it: http://forums.mydigitalonline.com/print ... 0&page=618

Happened to use the above BIOS for about the fifth time a few hours ago.

Two things:
1. The included WinPhlash is 32bit and won't flash in a 64bit OS.
I used a 64bit WinPhlash from a modded T400 BIOS and just directed it to the proper ROM file.

2. There is no SLIC 2.1 in the modified BIOS but the Lenovo marker tool is included in a separate folder - use it to add the SLIC

Had the same camera issue as you and it turned out to be a bad camera.
When the camera is working, the Lenovo Web Conferencing entry in the Control Panel will display the video.

I ended up bricking my X200s (temporarily) by using the above approach, although I used the 64 bit version of WinPlash downloaded from (IIRC) the Phoenix site.

Managed to recover the BIOS by reflashing using the Phoenix Crisis recovery tool, but it was a slightly scary...

(The Crisis bootable USB creation tool doesn't work with 64 bit Windows either, which I got around by using the T23 that I have lying around, although others have used Windows XP Mode or similar to achieve the same result.)

Its always the risk you run using a windows installer I personally have always used dosflash to flash anything like this. Bios updated now exist unlocked in throttlestop but still no dice with the camera have taken it all apart again to check the connection and all seems OK so must be iffy am in the process of getting it changed by the seller o bought it from.

thanks for all the help and suggestions.
