X220 Tablet Sound Issues

Hi
Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 Pro from Windows 8 Pro on my ThinkPad, the sound has started to crackle randomly. It normally happens when the Ethernet is connected and there is some network activity. Any application or web browser open playing videos or music etc, will be playing with crystal clear audio, then every so often a crackle or popping noise will happen and the audio continues normally afterwards. I am unsure weather this is a driver, OS or hardware issue. I did actually drop the ThinkPad after the upgrade took place so that always made me consider the possibility that something is damaged.
I did install Ubuntu in dual boot with Windows 8.1 the other day and it seems to not have any of the audio crackling/popping Windows has. I've not tested it thoroughly enough to be 100% sure that there are no audio problems on Ubuntu yet but I did watch a few videos on YouTube with the Ethernet connected and the audio was fine whereas on Windows there is almost always a few audio mishaps. I have checked and all my drivers are up to date on the Windows side so I'm not sure what to try next to try and find the cause of the issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks
