I have a pack of 10 soft rim trackpoint numb i usually put on all my new thinkpads but this one has the square peg that is about the half the size of the normal thinkpad size. So the nub barely works as it makes barely any contact with the peg and it would fall right off.

to be fair i have only replaced the nubs on a multitude of R60/T61/X61's I had. I have not replaced one on a newer model thinkpad but i think i sold my t410 and x220 before i even thought about replacing the trackpoint nub.

no idea how to find these smaller size nubs, anyone have an idea? the one this came with is in the trash now, oops...

Your keyboard is probably a FRU 42T3671, which is the NMB version.
There is a black plastic adapter between the small grey stick you see coming out of the keyboard and the eraser nub.
It fits very tightly to the nub but not to the KB so when the nub is removed the adapter comes along.
It’s very easy to throw away without realizing the adapter needs to be saved.
You have the correct nub but need to replace the black adapter.

The other US x201 KB (FRU 42T3737) is designed like the Trackpoints you’re familiar with.
