X201 motherboard in X200s
I have X200s with a U9400 CPU, and I need a bit more CPU power. Looked at modern X240 - was not too impressed, chicklet keyboard [censored] - so thinking of upgrading my X200s. Is is possible to install X201 (with reasonable i5/i7 CPU) into my X200s?

No! X200/X201 have similar base cases and direct-swap motherboards, and X200s/X201s have similar base cases and direct-swap motherboards. However, the motherboard of a non-s X20x will not fit in an s-type base because the non-s motherboard has a larger fan. The reverse is fine, however, i.e., the s-type motherboards will fit into the non-s base.fmilovanov wrote:... is possible to install X201 ... into my X200s?
So, in your situation, the answer to your question is, "No" -- your s-type base cannot accommodate a non-s motherboard.
Separately, you will need a different palm rest if you want fingerprint reader, since the X201[s] motherboard's fingerprint reader connector is different than that of the X200[s]. You may also need a modified BIOS for the X201[s] if the WLAN and/or WWAN cards you will use come from the X200s and are not "white-listed" for the X201[s].
Re: X201 motherboard in X200s
Hi
I now that the last person posted some time ago, but maybe someone will see this post. So I bought an x200s, and I would like to change the mobo from an x201. Everyone says that it won't work, beacuse of the thicker fan. So my question is. What if I would buy an x201 mobo with the lower case. I'm not 100% sure, but if the normal x200/x201 is thicker, so the thicker element is the lower casing. Can some one prove me wrong/wright?
